American forward thinker Buckminster Fuller patented in 1946 a unique map of our earth. One without any breaks in the continental contours or other visible distortion of the landmasses shapes and sizes. The project was dubbed The Dymaxion Projection and hand drawn by architect/ cartographer Shoji Sadado in 1954. This folding globe represents earth in two magical ways, as a flattened layout or a three dimensional geometric form. Designer Brendan Ravenhill brought the concept up to date and New York based brand Areaware transformed it into a great little gift for globe enthusiast travelers.

Designer Rogier Martens snatched up this nearly forgotten classic and gave it a lean, late 20th century look. And dutch outdoor brand Weltevree added the choice of two types of wood, archetypical Oak and Accoya. The latter is a FSC sourced wood, environmentally friendly treated by a patented process to make it rot resistant for a certain 50 years, ample time to get it handed down to the next generation.
